A Solid Review of Might & Magic II

Did you ever try to introduce a friend to a serious video game such as a RPG or a strategy game, only to find out twelve minutes later that your friend has the attention span of a hyperactive third grader and the only option is to quit the game in frustration? <b>Warning</b>: there is a lot of foul language (but nothing your kid hasn't heard before in the schoolyard), it's silly and and you might be offended by the treatment given to the venerable role-playing series. Haha, they were pretty funny. I had to turn the volume down pretty low though, so everybody in the house wouldn't hear the f-bomb 300 times. A lot of foul language was right. But still enjoyable if you don't take it too seriously.

At least the NES version has a minimap, the DOS version is completely unplayable without it, imo. I really wanted to play through all the games in the order they take place, but I decided the M&M games up until you get to XEEN aren't really worth it. In fact I'm amazed they ever were.

What are you talking about? The Dos version has the minimap (automapper) feature too. Of course you have to get certain things first. Cartography or Eagle eye or Wizards eye or the clairvoyance fountain.

MM1 was very interesting considering the time it came out at. MM2 was leaps and bounds ahead of it's time. Of course looking at them now it's hard to imagine them being "cutting edge", but they were...way back when. :O)

I regret not playing games at time M&M up to 5 were "popular". Going back to them now seems just a bit too much from todays point of view. On other hand. M&M6+ are enjoyable even for us, graphics-spoiled gamers of next generation

Hello SC. I'm actually playing it at the moment, visiting the Cuisinarts trying to get some killer equipment.

archcorenth, if you have a look at the first video when he drinks from the well of clairvoyance and doesnt think it does anything, it actually casts Wizards Eye (top right of screen) so you can see where you are going. The cartographer is in the NW part of town and costs 10 gold to buy and you're all set. Auto map heaven.

Also, I could understand MM2 been a little hard for someone to play due to its age but if you like Xeen there is absolutely no reason why you couldnt play Isles of Terra. It's heaps better but Clouds. I reckon you'd enjoy it.
