Help! Can't install HoMM2 on XP...

Unread postby MoxManiac » 13 Jun 2007, 14:28

Hey all,

I tried to install HoMM2 on XP SP2 last night, but it was a no go. I could swear I ran this fine on XP years ago.

The CD autoplays fine and the menu comes up, but when I click on install, nothing happens, or it freezes. I tried going into the CD directory and running setup manually but the same thing happens - i.e. nothing.

Actually, I did get the setup bar/window to pop up once or twice; but it stays at 0% and freezes.

I've tried every compatability mode XP offers, no luck. How are people running this game on XP?

My HoMM2 disc is from the original run, and I also have the PoL expansion.

Thanks

Mine H2 Gold installs fine on XP:SP2.

Have you tried both setups ?

CD:\setup.exe
CD:\_setup\setup.exe

EDIT:

Anyhow, you can extract H2 from setup files manualy with this software:

I will try that when I get home. That program you provided should do the trick if all else fails.

Thank you so much! :D

Strange, turning off anti-virus software fixed everything. Got it installed, seems to run great on XP, thank god.

Thanks again for the help!
