Poor Death armies, they aren't really spectacular. In 2 +3 they were great, but the lack of good spells and real advantages in IV have kind of left them in the dirt. Vampires are pretty cool, and Vampiric Touch is effective on a stack of Bone Dragons. D. Champions are neat, but I'm afraid Death just isn't what it used to be. I hope it's better in V. I have to ask - what happened to Liches? And also, remember Death Ripple and Death Wave from II? Where did it go? Man this is tough....

HOMM4 would have been ended up not alienating folks is they would've had both death and demon towns. Demon could've been opposite of Nature. Creatures could have been 1. Skellies and Zombies 2. Ghosts and mummies 3. Vampires or (fill in unchosen here) 4. Liches and Bone Dragon. Demon could have had 1. Imps and gogs 2. Cerbari or Demons 3. Efreeti or Venom Spawn (or Pit Lords) 4. Devils or Death Knights

about necros... i'm playing with them all the time and i also feel sorry for liches... and if you think that venoms suck... i wouldn't agree with you... in the begining you choose venoms and later when you get grandmaster necromancy for each battle you get few vampires... than you have venoms and vampires... two best death creatures... maybe you know all that... but you didn't write so i had to (:

Inferno and Necropolis would destroy the balance in H4. What aligment should the demons be? I can't think of any normal aligments then:
Life vs. Death
Order vs. Chaos
Nature vs. Might
Also, every level has one undead and one demonic unit. Venom Spawns are demons and a lich should have been an neutral unit.

I am back and ready to... ready to... post things.

Who cares about balance? It would mean the demons would be an extra castle, but it would make the spell guilds equal. Death has many great creatures, and they shouldn't be mixed with demons. Demons are alive, the undead and living aren't supposed to mix. I mean, don't get me wrong, they look good together on the battlefield, but the so-called Heroes spirit is somewhat off here. It all goes back to the fact that they rushed h4 out and didn't put the full meaning into h4. H4 was a good game, but it could have been a great game.
Also, Might shouldn't necessarily go against nature. Might has nothing against nature morally. Demons would be much more enemy-like, they represent fire, which destroys wildlife and trees and stuff. Might represents barbarians, who technically don't care who they fight, they just conquer. They would've made a great neutral faction.

Well, it could be argued that demons are not truly alive, but I agree that I would prefer to see demons and undead in separate factions. I am not that concerned about symmetry of good vs evil; in terms of gameplay, does it *really* matter if there are 4 evil factions vs 3 good? I don't think so, mainly because there really is no concept of automatic alliances between like-aligned factions - they all must compete against each other.
