Have fun then and remember that Fall from Heaven II is great in case you get bored of vanilla. ;)

BTW, FIRE will be out on February 16th! :oex:

You can open a new thread, it's no problem. Check out Amazon or eBay.

To the topic, I'm hooked on Civ4 and I'll probably have to take part in this conversation in a bit. I'm just gonna play some more first...

I know how you feel K, I got started on this sucker a few weeks ago and it's a killer, went for a Earth scenario (after and initial play around - missed civ III and it's been a looonnngggg time) and whupping some ass! way in front in the tech stakes, I have to say though that waging war is appropriately difficult in such a large map!

I feel like a real emperor of the early 1900s - I've got cruisers and carriers and all sorts of good stuff... and the other guy has spearmen. Yeeha.

Currently playing at Noble. But there's always some poor sod who falls behind and thus I can play like the imperialistic Europeans back in the day of Blackadder the fourth. Tanks versus spears. Gotta love it.

I remember the mighty spearmen of Civ II (or was that the first Civ?) who had no problem defeating tanks with a little luck. That was a bit frustrating for the tank owner.

a lot - although it depends on what you like, but it's an awesome game in it's genre, and if you're into that kind of thing, it also won numerous game of the year awards a coupla years ago

It rocks.

I can also warmly recommend tha game's multiplay features; hotseat and direct IP both work very well.

There's also the huge modding comunity that you can always turn to if you want some more variety in the game. The best mod for CIV out there is, IMO, Fall from Heaven 2. Currently it's at 0.016j, but even at this early version it transforms the game into something very different.

The beta for Fall from Heaven 2 FIRE will be out on Friday. :oex:

But that mod adds fantasy based stuff. Civ IMO is about a realistic setting, and I want it to stay that way.

Indeed :) Everyone has their tastes. I'm a sucker for fantasy, that's why I keep talking about FfH whenever I hear about CIV. I had a good and fun time with vanilla for quite some time, but then boredom came along and I needed a change.

There are lots of realistic mods out there too. Just check the Mod Development subforum on CivFanatics and you'll see. ;)

Just played hotseat 13 hours straight with Ethric... 3 a.m - maybe time to go to sleep?

As I said somewhere up yonder, Amra has a great mod that adds a bunch of new civs, leaderheads, wonders, and resources -- but leaves gameplay unchanged. If you fancy growing coffee or playing as Conan the Cimmerian (Fin/Agg), this is the mod for you.

I finally found Warlords on sale, and so far so good. I'm still learning the new rules, but look forward to the scenarios.

Yes, I believe it might be a good idea. You should be well rested for the next game you're going to play tonight ;)
