Necro campaign, last mission question
Necro campaign, last mission question
I found this in a Heroes V (fan) site:
In Mission 5 (last mission) of Necro Campaign, there is:
Secondary Objectives:
Kill Black Dragons.
Kill Black Dragons to raise them as undead Bone Dragons.
Is this correct, and if so where do I find these Black Dragons, or is there no such thing in Mission 5 of the Necro Campaign?

If I'm not mistaken, that last mission is about defeating Godric.
I personally never got those secondary objectives....
Weird...

Well I don't remember, but if this is so you would have to find a place to recruit them (town, dwelling, ect) and take them to a Necropolipse with a transformer. Sacrificing them there would indeed create bone dragons (though why in the world you would want to turn any other dragon into a bone dragon is beyond me hehe, I'd take the morale penalty first and use the normal dragons!).
Warning, may cause confusion, blindness, raising of eybrows, and insanity.
yeah... honestly heroes 5 bone dragons are kinda useless... I loved h4 ones but in this game I think I prefer Wraiths....and it is another dragon to add to the already long list...
I think it would have been more interesting if those death knigths were Necropolis' 7th level unit... or better yet knights for lvl 6 and wraiths for 7

The secondary objectives were pretty fun to do most of teh time, and some of them had cool rewards like + 1 to all stats for completing them.winterfate wrote: If I'm not mistaken, that last mission is about defeating Godric.

Back to Naki's question, yes the black dragons quest is a secondary objective, which is not a pre-requisite to win the game. There is a stack of black dragons (i think) on the NW corner of the map (separated from mainland by sea). But as mentioned, converting the black to bone dragons doesnt make sense from a battle tactic point of view, but if that adds +1 to all stats, then it may be worth considering
Are you sure? I do not see any dragons neither in NE or NW corner.

recently got into this game having not played any of the former ones.
addicted of course.
i do need help though. i am in the same type of scenario with this campaign. the secondary objectives do not seem to matter too much BUT.
i am in the last part of this particular section. i have gotten to the town which godric is holding. i have tried and tried to defeat his army but cannot. i cannot play automatic battle and the reason i want to is i cannot access some of the spells that the necromancer has available under normal play. i cannot access puppet master nor can i summon elementals while in automatic mode i can.
is there a reason for this. i cannot amass enough armies in the time frame given and cannot fight on the normal battlefield but only to siege the town. of course without access to some of the spells i always lose. it doesn't seem to matter what type of troops or how many. be they a mix or the two towns, single armies or whatever. can anyone tell me how to play the AI so i can get past this section.
i have been trying all sorts of combinations now for about 4 days (sad sack that i am but i am on winter break until next monday) so i have time to kill.
it REALLY is frustrating.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
as a novice i am always loathe to ask these questions as it makes me seem a dope.

Actually, I already finished the mission (on Normal). I had no problems, because I converted lots of Haven troops into Necro ones, including 23 Inqusitors that joined me, which I upgraded to Cavaliers (then turned to Wraiths).
It was my second try of this mission, in the first I attacked with much less troops, but much later on, and was squashed - Godric had 42 Rajas (those cat-like things), which were very deadly, also his 75(!!!) Mages killed my catapult just after the battle started! Also, I attacked in the last week, which makes things harder, because there is a 20% handicap in Necro troops defence. (NOTE: So DO NOT attack in the last week)
FreshHope, nope, the island with the Arena does not have any dragons on it. I guess HeroesOfMightAndMagic.com somehow has the wrong info... Oh, and btw, yes you can get there without a boat (used Isabel to scout the island using a boat, then got Markal to the island by flying).
'ouston, make sure you do not attack too late, I attacked on Month 2, Week 2, Day 1. Which basically is the same as attacking on Week 1, because on Day 1 Godric cannot buy his new week of troops (his turn comes after yours). Also, you need to build all creature buildings in both towns, do as much upgrades (using the Training Grounds) of the Haven troops as you can (using Isabel - but do NOT give her the troops, give them to a third hero), and then convert them to Necro units. Note that it doesn't matter if you convert an upgraded unit on an un-upgraded one, the convertion to Necro makes the unit UNupgraded, so you need to upgrade it after converting it.
What difficulty are you playing on (me - Normal)? I had a Markal, who has Dark magic, and ALL spells, including Frenzy, Blind(ness) and Puppet Master, as well as Curse of the Netherworld and Decay/Mass Decay. Frenzy and Puppet Master are very much necessary for the fight with Godric, Curse of the Netherworld and Decay/Mass Decay help as well. Of course, if your Markal has TWO (maybe even three?) Schools of Magic, that makes things easier (for example, Dark and Summoning, etc).

You cannot use Automatic battle when fighting with Godric, unfortunately.
But I didn't need it - basically I crushed him, I had much more troops, and his Frenzied Rajas killed both his Gremlins and his Golems.
Also, yes you do fight him with him and his troops behind his castle, there's no other way. To convert Haven troops into Necro, bring them to the Necro town with the 3-rd (or 4-th) hero, then (inside the Necro city) click the icon in the middle of the left panel. If the icon is gray, you don't have the building needed.
Edit: Some more info - when I failed, I had these stats and these troops, and Godric had these -->>
First time (attack on last week of month 2):
Markal, Level 30, 17A, 16D, 24S, 20K, Luck = 5 (Max), Mana = 200/200, Troops = 21 Wraiths, 161 Plague Zombies, 1175 Skel. Archers, 19 Archliches, 60 Vampire Lords, 70 Spectres, NO dragons.
----
Godric, Level 20, 13A, 20D, 12S, 15K, Morale = 3, Luck = 0, Mana = 150/150.
Troops: 5 Titans, 42 Upgraded Rajas, 75 Mages, others are useless mostly, so I do not list them.
Second time (attacked on Month 2, Week 2, Day 1):
Markal, Level 29, 18A, 16D, 24S, 21K, Luck = 5 (Max), Mana 210/210,
Troops = 42 Wraiths, 257 Plague Zombies, 1649 Skel. Archers, 35 Archliches, 66 Vampire Lords, 155 Spectres, 8 Bone Dragons.
----
Godric, same stats.
Troops: 5 Titans, 30 UNupgraded Rajas , 45 Mages, etc.
Notes:
* You need the Ring of Sar-Issus (Halves mana cost of spells), which you can find (by using a boat) in the lower right corner of the map.
* The same island also has a Sphinx, which is very useful for getting 25000 gold (Sphinx riddles are random, but are set in the beginning of the mission, also, you do not need to enter/guess text, but select from 3 choices, which is much easier - if you do not guess right the first time, just load from an autosave and try again).
* For some reason, Godric uses Mages instead of Archmages, which is nice. He does have a good amount of Archmages as well, but they do not appear in the battle...
* You only have two cities, so you simply cannot buy all creatures, especially after spending (lots of) money on training/upgrading troops in the Haven city. Try to buy most of them, though. When I first tried (and failed) the mission, I had lots of unbought creatures (do NOT do that ).
* Whenever you capture a mine, visit the mine once again and place 1 low-level creature to defend it (Skeleton/Zombie/Archer/etc). If you don't, you will have to re-capture your mines, because Godric takes them from a distance.

Sounds weird! Maybe a bug? How can you cast spells while in automatic mode, doesn't the computer decide what spells to cast when on automatic? You shouldn't be able to cast any spells that your hero does not know.i cannot access puppet master nor can i summon elementals while in automatic mode i can.

was going to back load a saved game to a point where i could continue.
at first i didn't figure that part out and when my hero lost i re started the whole thing again..
i DO need that embarrassed emoticon.
i have now learned that i can go back in time to a point where i can pick the campaign up.
sometimes however it is easier to re start the whole campaign depending where you are in the thing.
but i have tried all the above alternatives and it still hasn't worked for me.
when you pick up godric's daughter you get this stupid orange player who rips apart your current army and then you don't have a lot of time to reassemble a new one before your time expires.
or at least one that can stand a chance on the battle field.
the majd's and the titans rip apart my army before i can do anything. i am left with paltry remnants to finish them off.
my necromancer has summon elements and puppet master which i cannot access on the "human battle" element but on automatic battle they can be used with impunity.
for example isabel summons a phoenix and even with virtually no army behind her she can rip apart almost any opponent with whatever army he has. the necromancer can summon a puppet master and force the opponents army to rip themselves to shreds or summon an earth or wind elemental which can take apart almost anyone.
i cannot access these spells for the human battle and they would obviously make a HUGE difference.
that's my current dilema.
that's one problem mate. i DO have puppet master and i cannot access while using manual mode. i don't know quite why.
i am playing the normal mode also. i cannot get that many armies either. as i said as you get freyda the orange player batters your army to shreds. i once let it fight it out with isabel in the haven town but i still lost too many troops that i couldn't replace in the time frame.
i am obviously doing something wrong. i have tried with skeleton archers but he titan wipes them out right way 100 something at a pop.
the madj blast my inquisitors or archlich's so i am only left with squires or some such to take the town. as i am unable to cast an decent spells like puppet master the opponents can take my army apart at will.

If Markal knows the spell Puppet Master, but you can't cast it in manual mode, then something is wrong. Have you patched Heroes with patch 1.4?
About the orange heroes, yes, the 30 level hero that comes from south is quite powerful, but my Markal is able to beat him, although as you say, the losses are big. The other hero is level 19 with a smaller army, I chose to let him take the Haven town. Before letting him in, I bought all Haven creatures and moved them to the Necro town, converted them and then crushed him with Markal.
Inqusitors? Squires? No, do not do that - convert them to Necro, much better! For example, you have 30 Archliches and 30 Inquisitors, much better to convert the Inquisitors and you get 60 Archliches...

i have just patched the 1.4 but now do i need to start the whole campaign, the actual mission all over again or will it modify the game i am playing. i would rather start again if it fixes the problem because i most definitely cannot cast puppet master in manual mode nor summon elementals.

Try to be faster. If you've got summon phoenix, all you should do in the map is go to free Freya, go get the angels wings, get whatever meager reinforcement the necropolis has pproduced in the same time (send them by a secondary hero), and then head straight for Godric. If you don't have SUmmon Phoenix, I'm not sure if the battle is possible.
