I installed it because I wanted to play in 1600x1200, and before optimization, it was too choppy. :)

Anybody following the progress of the Warlords expansion? Looks happy to me.

I hope you'll like it :), even if it's only at version 0.13 (0.14 on Saturday).

edit: Oh, and have lots of patience until it loads. If it seems to be doing nothing after you've double-clicked the exe, wait!

I don't play anything else besides vanilla and FfH :D
I tried The Ancient Mediterranean a few times, but it got boring quick. SevoMod -- I deleted it after a while, can't remember exactly why, but in my case this means I didn't find it worthwhile. As for all those mods made after games, I have the original games to play with. I also found a Stone Ages mod thread; the concept is very interesting and I was hoping it would actually become something, but unfortunately the modder hasn't been around in quite a while and the thread is kinda dead right now.

Hmmm...It looks like it would be nice addition.Too bad its dead.I dont like testing versions below 1.0(especially after the heroes beta).Revolutions also sounds nice.I might try it.And I like the sevo mod because it has lots of add ons(unlike the total realism one, which is also very nice).

Is there any call to power mod, btw?

You should definitely get Blue Marble. All it does is beautify the terrain, but it is definitely worth it.

Smartmap is the best map generator, I'd say. You can generate all kinds of maps and control things like amount of desert/tundra, frequency of resources, sea level, and much more.

Finally, I highly, highly recommend Amra's ALH Modpack v1.80. It adds more units, leaders, resources etc and makes a few changes to gameplay (like replanting forests) that enhance the game. Sevo tinkered too much with game mechanics for my taste, but Amra has preserved the essence of the game while adding to the experience. There's more here than in Warlords.

Yes,I checked it out,but it seemed to me that sevo did a bit more,so thats the one I went with.I especially like the new promotions.Especially the aid ones.

Here's how they do it over there.

Soren Johnson: "From that point on, my most important source of information, my compass, so to speak, was always the online community. Game design, of course, always involves the iterative cycle of internal development and testing and refinement and more testing and so on. However, the topic of Civ was so broad, so all-encompassing, and so flexible that no one person could understand all the ways the game could be played or approached.

"As I discovered more and more paths to Civ, I became a better game designer. If Civ IV succeeded in areas where Civ III failed, it is largely because our understanding of the Civ community increased so much over the intervening years. In fact, the 100-person private test group for Civ IV – critical to the game’s development – was culled from our personal interaction with the many different groups and sites that existed on the net."

Perhaps there is a lesson for Ubisoft somewhere in there.

Yeah, Soren Johnson and Sid Meier and the like have a different ethos to ubi ... shame really could use more of that

So I started playing this a bit, and thought I'd try a custom game. But I automatically loose after 10 turns, there's even a countdown to it. What the heck is this? Some loss condition I am not aware of presumeably. Tried 4 times, always the same. Choosing a scenario does not have this little quirk.

I found this at the CivFanatics forums. Although it's in the mod subforum, I think it might apply to the situation...

It's odd though, it never happened to me.

Well if it is meant as a way to ensure people not using no-cd cracks, it is rather flawed as it only works on
some playmodes. Can play scenarios just fine... daft. Guess I'll just have to not use it then.

Like I said, it's very odd. It never happened to me in any playmode, although I've been using the no-cd crack ever since I installed the game. Back then I used to play a lot and it was really a waste of time using the DVD.

Yeah, changing dvd's back and forth for various stuff is so oldfashioned :)

Still, I fixed it, seems to be gone now.
