Question on earning EXP

Unread postby ahoover » 04 Mar 2009, 22:12

I am currently playing the first mission of the Necro campaign in ToE. I have been using Ornella excusively for my battles, and I am noticing that the amount of experience I am earning after each victory seems incredibly low. I just took out 42 Succubi and 90 Horned Demons in a single battle and I earned only 556 EXP. This lack of experience earned has been going on for all my battles during every week. I do have only two skills learned, expert dark and expert logistics. I checked to make sure it isn't the one week where experience is halved and it is not. I am playing on Hard difficulty if that matters. Anyone know why this is occuring?

I've narrowed it down somewhat. I am earning experience normally in the prologue orc mission, but then once I get to the Necro campaign my experience earned after every battle is significantly reduced. So far I have tested it in Missions 1-3 and it is the same problem in every mission. Has no one else had this happen before? Maybe some kind of bug?

Did you checked your skills? I think that the barbarian was starting with "Enlightenment".

No, Quroq starts with only Advanced Bloodrage, no enlightenment. So that isn't it.

I decided to try this out to see what was going on. I did the first mission of the necro campaign on hard. I was killing the level 1 creatures and got about 200 experience points for each fight.

100 + imps gave 184 experience.

I checked the manual and that is very low. But it seems that's normal for the mission.

I checked this out for you. The problem isn't a bug, it comes as part of that map's internal script. I think this line causes it:
Map Script wrote:SetHeroesExpCoef( 0.3 );
You only receive 30% of your usual experience from all fights during this scenario. It does seem a bit unfair, especially for players on Easy (you're on Hard, but still)... I can make you a small patch to restore the usual experience gain, if you like.

Phoenix Reborn and Corlagon, thanks for the info. Not sure why these missions are like this, I just found it somewhat irritating. Thanks for the offer, Corlagon, but I am on Mission 3 now so it is no longer a big deal since me heroes are now at decent levels. Wonder why this campaign is designed with a hamper on experience. Strange.

Perhaps because of the level cap. Did you managed to reach it?

Barely reached it on Mission 1 w/ Ornella. Cleared the whole map of neutrals. Easily reached it on Mission 2 w/ Arantir, but then only reached it with Arantir on Mission 3; couldn't reach it with Ornella. Looks like only Arantir will reach the level cap on Mission 4 as well.

What is the experience calculation formula anyway, considering basic w/o enlightement?
