My initial response to the game was not very positive (as regards Heroes games, not games in general) and I would probably have given it somewhere around 70. However, my position has changed since then and for the better. I'll restrain the 'grumpy old fogy' side of me and award the game a generous 82!

I voted 80-90%. The game has an enourmous potential. However, the campaigns are short (only 5 maps which are small) and the story is not studied deep. There are a number of bugs which should (will) be taken care of. I'm OK with the scripted AI in the campaigns. Although I did not see the performance of the real AI, I suppose it's not that good. I view the AI development as a process that can take some time. So, I'm not basing my grade on the AI. The game will be finalized after like 3-4 patches, which was the case for all previous titles. Actually, almost all PC games receive several patches in a year or so after the initial release.

I'd give it 78.
With patching it would be a good solid 84.
The game innovates... but only as much as it regresses. Unfortunately it seems lessons have not been learnt from H4 (very important part of sequels) but new ideas definately worthwhile. Solid effort but too many little things that detract (incluing issues about release and complement).

I think many of the reviews have been fairly accurate. Sure, the reviewers didn't provide a detailed analysis of the skill system, but honestly who among us could do it with the info the game and manual provide and still submit their article before the publication deadline?
So, a score in the low 80s is what I'd give it right now.

Voted 70-80, with the game in its current state.
The game needs a map editor badly... with only 10 multiplayer maps playable the hotseat play currently in homm5 is rather poor.
I enjoy greatly duel mode online, but I also wish that mode was implemented in hotseat play.
The AI also leaves something to be desired, as I've seen the computer plain suck on some multiplayer maps when playing hotseat with a friend.
Don't get me wrong, I love the game as a whole, but with these issues still present, I can't give it a rating in the 80s or 90s.

Vote low 80:s. With a mapeditor and spellchecking, it'd get some 5 extra points. An interface that isn't so clunky, some old features back (sleep, windmill flagging, accumulating dwellings and other.) and better documentation are other things that would net more points.
