As of the above problem, it's more complicated but it's relevant only to old devices without HEVC (H265) support. The previous AVC (H264) won't help you here. But what will?

#1
- First check list of supported devices, for AMD HEVC is supported from the Carizzo APUs and up. But my Kaveri is out of luck. My GPU RX570 is however in.
#2 - There's Microsoft HEVC codec available for a small fee, believe it or not, to some actually helped. Visit microsoft store and look up HEVC.
#3 - Reinstall your GPU driver. This should come as a first. :D

As of my previous post, it actually helped but added strange behaviours for some videos, where there were mini loops, instead of proper playing forward. The core of the problem is indeed combination of APU and GPU, where first one doesn't support it and the second it does. For whatever reason, the first messed up the things.

AMD finally started to pushing out their new APUs. (Which were promised like three years ago and slightly delayed for at least two years).

APU is CPU with integrated GPU, usable for causal gaming.

I'm curiuos for price tags and NB variants. So far, there are only "reviews" like this one: https://www.pcgamesn.com/amd/halo-strix-revealed

Hinting even better models. Good example as of now would be Ryzen 7 8700G.

As for the announced ones, peek here, to see some tests:

They are out! And graphic performance seems to be very solid.

AMD Ryzen 7 8700G Full Specs

This is finally solid performance from Zen 4 (Raphael) architecture. The only downside can be, that Zen 5 is expected in Q2 2024. Both of them will be desktop only. For notebooks is planned next gen Medusa: Zen 6 + RDNA 5.

Possible PC build with Ryzen 7 8700G:
  • ASRock B650E PG RIPTIDE WIFI
  • Patriot Viper Venom 32GB (2x16GB) 7000MHz šedá
Or this ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-F GAMING WIFI with much better sound (also price, chipset and such..).

Strangely prices of some stronger AMD CPU (Ryzen 9+7, APU seems to be not affected) are slowly ramping up, cause it is another crypto currency madness - QBIC mining uses in AMD set of instructions AVX-2 and AVX-512.

Today I bought myself AMD Ryzen 7 7700 tray with Scythe Choten for a very low cost 282,42€. I will also add board, likely MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk, with getting the rest later.

Reason is, that prices and availability for all these parts is rather random. And the price of stock Ryzen 7700 is usually around 300€. Around May there should come new Ryzens based on Zen 5 but it's really unclear if it will affects prices of Zen 4 Ryzen, as their availability is dwindling.

The motherboards are actually the same case.

PS At least here. In USA it can differ and indeed do, microcenter offers the cpu for $260.

The prices are much more volatile in EU.

PSS I would also like to complete it with 48GB RAM 6000Mhz or more and be quiet! PURE BASE 600 including 600W CPU. GPU I have from the past, same with drives.

Wintoy is an interesting app, allowing you to tweak important windows settings from one place.

Among others, there are two interesting performance options:
* Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS)
* Network adapter onboard processor

If you can, enable them. Depending on your configuration and apps, this may brought you better life.

If someone would be asking about best and still budged GPU, so it's currently time of RTX 4060. Sure, 4K can't come to a mind seriously but the card is probably best buck for the money atm.

I'm shopping for QD OLED 32” 4K monitors but the only ones I can find in stock are from Alienware and I'm not sure if it is worth getting or waiting until the end of the year when there will be a few more new options. Lots of options right now but only one I can actually buy. Any thoughts?

Your favourite microstore don't have them?

First, you need to sort out your priorities, what do you want from them?

I can't find anywhere that has any of these except Best Buy has the Alienware one right now for $1000 and Newegg has PG32UCDM for $1300.

https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https% ... a1dd627745

That's a comparison chart. I don't have any priority except glossy screen instead of matte and the Alienware one has a internal fan which may be more noisy than others that have heatsinks. Some people say the DP 2.1 is "futureproof" but not sure how important that is.

EDIT: If it matters, I have this audio interface:

That's interesting interface, so some compliant sound bar or speakers?

Sorry for being late, I'm on vacations. ;)

As of QD-OLED - at glance, I see four. The explanation is, that 32" and below is small. More is at market in bigger sizes.

I thought the biggest one was 34" according to this chart: https://www.displayninja.com/best-oled-monitor/

As of the sound repro. How much space do you have?

But doesn't that monitor have lower specs in terms of resolution, refresh rate, etc?

I don't have a lot of space but I can always make more space.

Edit: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/cr ... and-mighty

Would this be recommend for a cheap speaker in comparison to the the sound bar above. Still haven't hooked up the monitor I bought because I haven't chosen an audio solution.

As of the QD-OLED panel that's really hard to judge "from the table". Declared parameters are not everything, someone should review them first and check if they match.

Very important is also if you want it curved or not, what is your desired color accuracy (8bits vs 10bits vs 12bits + RGB and HDR veracity), luminosity (nits, more is better but carefully here, for example in EU, or versions for EU there's hard limit given by law) and don't forget about matrix light distribution test - should be even, connectors (Display Port is the best, for HDMI you might look for lower refresh rate, as max here is 144Hz) and matrix technology/execution.

As of the sound, Peeble is really the budged option, I would advise to go for something better, which could last longer with better fidelity and performance. Do you have place under table or these could be placed on the shelf?

Studio Monitors are not bad, I do use them myself (from M-Audio) and it's acceptable compromise of size and quality. However you need two, so you might be interesting in looking for some cheaper option than this.

From the "ninja" pages I like "MSI MPG 321URX" but much depends on what do you want. For example if you need Power Delivery (to charge your phone or power bank via USB-C) at all. I do see here bigger monitors, than 32", perhaps the page was updated?

I'm also not sure if you need as a key technology Dolby Vision, see it here:
https://www.tomsguide.com/us/what-is-do ... -5138.html

On well tuned panels, the difference between HDR10 and Dolby Vision is only in intensity of selected range of colors. Which means, the fidelity goes down. Do you need it?

The MSI MPG 321URX is the only one that is always sold out everywhere.

I went with these speakers and cables.

https://www.kaliaudio.com/lone-pine-studio-monitors

https://www.mac.bid/products/B08L4TZQ5X

Monitor supports Dolby Atmos but not sure if that does anything with the sound setup I'm using. I think the only way to get that is with the sound bar option connected directly to monitor, but I'm not sure if that would be better sound or worse overall.
