Trouble patching HOMM IV

Unread postby jtmcgrane » 25 Oct 2008, 06:43

Hi, everyone. I have Heroes of Might and Magic IV version 2.2 . I can't get any patches or mods to work on it. I keep getting the same error messages when I begin the download...

Patch Warning
Missing or Invalid Registry/INI entry

and after pressing Ok...

Patch Error
Old File does not exist

Does anyone have any wisdom to share on this.
Thanks,
John

Perhaps you need what you're urged to. Repair your registry. In other words did you tried to reinstall your game? Spin a cd drive again, put a gold metal plate on its tongue and let it all begin once again.

Also check your language version, some languages are more specific than the others. Here's the page.

Hi. Thank you for your response. I uninstalled the game and all saved game files with it. Then I ran a registry cleaner. I reinstalled and I am still getting the same error messages. I don't know how to check the language version. I'm not that good at anything to do with the registry.

1. Click "start".
2. Click "run".
3. Type "regedit" and click enter.
4. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/New World Computing/Heroes of Might and Magic IV/1.0/
5. Find out which one of these language keys you have:

409 = US
809 = UK English
??? = Czech
40c = French
40f = German
??? = Hungarian
410 = Italian
40a = Spanish
??? = Russian

Basically, if it says you have version 409, you have the US version of the game and you need the US patch.

Thanks guys. Its the US version. Uh, I saw Ubisoft's site and their statement about the current version being 2.2. If that is so, then why am I seeing the 3.0 version everywhere. I still can't the game to patch. I believe I tried to add the Equilibris mod as well and that didn't work either. I am very confused. Did Ubisoft make my version unpatchable????

Yes, these guys have notorious trouble with numbers. Your version is up to date with exception of update for a spellbook.

(Ok, should be. On our patch update page which I linked previously as the last ones are menitoned Ubisoft patches, you may try them. Still it should be only spell book fix which you should need. )

The spellbook patch worked perfectly well. Thanks for all of your help!
I'll let you folks get back to more important questions.
