Elf Archer evolution
Believe it or not, no one had done that yet!
But elves have been in EVERY SINGLE HoMM GAME EVER MADE, even King's Bounty!
I didn't include the H5 2nd expansion upgrade, because I couldn't find any pictures.
I couldn't find pictures of the old Elf unit in King's Bounty either.
H1 Elf
H2 Elf
H2 Grand Elf
H3 Wood Elf (this lazy fella DIDN'T shoot twice...)
H3 Grand Elf
H4 Elf
H5 Hunter
H5 Master Hunter

Voted Heroes III Grand Elf
Even though I like the way the Heroes III Wood Elf looks more. But since the Grand Elves shoot twice, they got my vote.
I would have voted for the Heroes V Elves too, except for their 'donkey' ears.
I think the pics below are a better representation of Heroes IV's Elves.

It's a tough choice, but I went with the HoMM 2 grand elves.
The HoMM 4 elves look better in those pics HodgePodge posted than up close in the artwork depiction, and that goes for all HoMM 4 creatures actually.
Jesus saves, Allah forgives, Cthulhu thinks you'd make a nice sandwich.
Something about the H3 elves just makes me want to rip out my eyeballs. Maybe it's that they look to human? Maybe it's that they sort of pop out of the screen in their pre-rendered glory yet have such a glaring lack of detail? Whatever it is, I hate it yet I can't place it.
Some of the same is true for the H1 elf, to a lesser extent, and for the H5 hunter, to a much lesser extent. The H5 Master Hunter doesn't have the oddness that makes me want to rip out my eyeballs, but it still looks horrible for other reasons (the blue is a big part of that, as is the skirt). The H4 elves look, like most of the H4 creatures, plastic and washed-out. Their animation and sound is good, however.
That leaves the H2 elves, which are the only ones that don't immediately and strongly repel me. Of those, I picked the grand elf. I guess the non-green torso makes it easier on the eye.

being GREEN,
ya' know.
Anyhow, please don't rip out your eyeballs, as it would be pretty hard to play Heroes if you did.

well apart from the fact the elf has a single red feather and the Grand Elf has two blue ones there is this comparison:
Elf
HP 15
Damage 2-3
Attack 4
Defense 3
Speed Average
Cost 250 gold
Grand Elf
HP 15
Damage 2-3
Attack 5
Defense 5
Speed Very Fast
Cost 300 gold
both have two attacks

You forgot about the +2 chainmail armor the grand elf gets for better protection.asandir wrote:well apart from the fact the elf has a single red feather and the Grand Elf has two blue ones there is this comparison:

Definately Heroes III Grand Elf.
These Noble Elves are quite nice, balanced for an archer unit of level 3, shoot twice and wear one fine piece of elite unit's uniform. (although the outfit it isn't good for hiding in the woods.) Perhaps Rampart's most distinctive troops.

Well for the Heroes III Elf/Grand Elf, I have to admit I like the green clothing and general look of the regular Elf better than the Grand Elf with chainmail. But the difference between having one shot or two makes the Grand Elf much more of a favorite Elf overall. So for me, taking every aspect into consideration affected my decision.PhoenixReborn wrote:I meant what is the difference visually?
… I think between those two people are picking the stronger creature.
