<img src="/https://www.celestialheavens.com/images ... oxshot.jpg" align=right vspace=10 hspace=10>Community manager Acheval started a <a href="/http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/ ... ">question thread</a> in the Dark Messiah official forum for fans who have questions about the game. Game director <b>Raphael Colantonio</b> provided some answers halfway through the second page of the thread, so I'll post a summary here:
<ul>
<li><b>AI</b>: "AI adjusts it's strategy according to your tactic, your equiped weapon, etc... But there is no dynamic AI difficulty system (...)"
<li><b>AGEIA Processor Required?</b>: "no"
<li><b>Melee Combat</b>: "The philosophy relies on lots of context based actions, rythm control and AI state management. This provides a lot of variety, it provides tactic and action at the same time, and most of all, you can use the environement a lot as part of your tools to kill enemies. For example kicking NPCs into the fire, off the ledges, into barels, etc.. Grabbing heavy objects and throwing them at NPCs..."
<li><b>Micromanagement</b>: "the RPG side of the game is very intuitive and accessible: there is an open persistant inventory where you can store all your items and goodies, and there is a skill screen where you upgrade your character as you progress through the game."
<li><b>Multiplayer co-op</b>: "no, good idea though"
<li><b>Map Editor</b>: "probably so"
<li><b>Two-Hand Weapons</b>: "you can wear a shield too. And there are several types of daggers / kryss"
<li><b>Why Dark Messiah instead of Might and Magic X?</b>: "because Dark Messiah is not the gameplay continuity of mmX, it's a new genre"
<li><b>Third-Person View</b>: "All the mechanics were designed to take advantage of first person only."
<li><b>Impact of Actions on Storyline</b>: "yes, in a few important occasions, there will be different possible endings too."
<li><b>Post-Release Updates</b>: "it is still being debated at the moment."</ul>
The official forum is still fairly quiet two months before the release of the game, but I expect Ubisoft to generate a lot of hype during the next couple of weeks.

"Multiplayer Co-op: no, good idea though"
WHAT? No Co-op? I haven't found a single good co-op FPS since the original Quake! I was seriously hoping for a co-op Might and Magic game. Does the "good idea though" mean that they will do it now that someone has brought it up, or that it would go good in the game but they won't do it anyway?

A map editor? For SOURCE?!
Re: Answers from Arkane
Beta testing is under way, and the game will be out in two months. It's probably too late by now.CloudRiderX wrote:Does the "good idea though" mean that they will do it now that someone has brought it up

Yeah the map editor astounded me. I didn't even think this sort of game lent itself to using a map editor. Isn't this one big connected world (similar to a MMORPG only of course not online)? ;P I honestly havn't played a M&M game since I almost want to say M&M2 (which at the time I really sucked at so I never got into it) so I'm not positive on that
But that's what it always looked like to me.
As for the co-op, when they say good idea, maybe they mean for a patch or expansion?

cloudrider .... actually quake II had a good co-op as well
but most of those answers sound pretty good, it's weird, i hang around these forums most days, and am as keen an M&M'er as most here, yet am really undecided about DMoMM .... i guess it's one where i see what people have to say after it's released, it has the potential IMO to be great, and also the potential to be not so great .... i hope it's the former

Hey stefan, how did you get to do co-op in Quake II? I fooled around with that thing for a day trying to get a co-op game going, all I saw that could be done was versus matches. Was the co-op released with the original version of QII?
I find it semi-entertaining that Arkane will be producing a map/world editor for Dark Messiah, while Nival couldn't even release one for the original Heroes 5. Considering the difference in complexity, that is kind of a joke.
